2) Biased and skeptical about fashion, Andy started to change her mind. Although Miranda Priestly treated Andy as an errand boy and other co-workers were laughing at her and teasing her, she worked like a dog and kept her eye on the ball. The girl answered the phone every time her boss called and fulfilled impossible-to-do requests. She made a good impression on Miranda and step by step Andy felt more confident. Her self-perception also changed: she asked Nigel to give her a crash course on how to dress according to the latest fashion. She started to wear make-up, have her hair done. Gaining the sense of fashion, Andy said good-bye to her loose and plain sweaters and shirts like all studious schoolgirls wore. Flat shoes and clogs were substituted for elegant scarpin shoes and knee-high boots, long skirts turned into miniskirts and casual dresses. Designer garments replaced shabby and cheap ones. Besides, she became more conscious about healthy food and workouts. The more she dived into the new work, the more her relationships with her nearest and dearest deteriorated. She prioritized doing the duties more than hanging out with her friends and spending time with Nate.

3) Miranda was one of the most prominent figures in fashion industry and editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. People spoke of her as “snow queen”, “the Dragon Lady” or just “career-obsessed” woman. She overlooked her family life (twin daughters and husband) because of the tight schedule and a great working load. She couldn’t help reminding her employees that the job they did was crucial. The woman was bossy and usually looked down on others. Knowing how to carry herself, she could butter people she couldn’t stomach up if it was beneficial. Set the high standards for herself, she demanded the same from her assistants, that’s why it was difficult for them to get on well with her. Picking outfits she paid much attention to details. It’s hard to choose one garment to describe but the one I really liked was a black knee length tight-fitting dress with leather dark belt and massive golden buckle on it. The look was complemented with a orange patterned satin kerchief and a trapezium-shaped bag with long thin handles.

4) Emily Charlton was Miranda Priestly’s prior assistant. She worshiped her boss and dreamed to travel to Paris for Fashion Week. At work Emily was responsible, knew stuff. There were moments of weakness when she like others employees complained about Miranda’s criticisms and abusive behavior. Being one of those girls, who “would kill for that work”, she sacrificed her health starving and stressed out while trying to please the Snow Queen. At first, Emily didn’t hit it off with Andy but by the end of the film the ice was broken. Emily was a contradictory person: on the one hand, she was arrogant and boastful, but on the other, she was sincerely grateful to Andy for helping at a formal occasion when the girl forgot important guests’ names. Needless to say that Emily was dressed fashionably all the time and I wanted to point out one of her chic attires.

(At the end of the film, Emily was still working for Miranda, although her leg was broken and she barely could walk).

👉🏼Black and white checked V-neck blouse perfectly matched gauze black tutu-like skirt. The skirt covered up to half of the dark brown knee-high boots. The purple wide belt and the silver bracelet made Emily‘s outfit stylish.

5) Fife Andy’s outfits

  • The attire which evoked many positive reactions and made other co-workers envy included the beige sequin tunic and a black double-breasted jacket in woven fabric with peak lapels and jetted pockets. The jacket was slightly longer than usual ones. The dark leather pants went well with the jacket and matching knee-high boots. As for the jewelry, she wore a necklace made of several thin golden chains of different lengths.
  • Andy looked like a million dollars in the black silk mermaid dress, that she wore to the formal occasion to accompany her boss. The dress had a V- neck and the wrapover front and was decorated with lace at the shoulders.
  • The green dress with a gypsy dark-green skirt became Andy well. The gloves, a black silk bolero with a stiffed band collar complemented the outfit. As for accessories, she wore stiletto shoes, a golden clutch and a pearl necklace.
  • Another casual look was a straight white button-down shirt with rolled sleeves and the black off-the-shoulder top. Also, she wore black flared pants, a tweed newsboy hat and matching stiletto shoes. A Chanel necklace and a classic little bag made the outfit exceptionally pretty.
  • The semi-circle red skirt and the white polka dot cashmere blouse with the short flutter sleeves went well with each other. As for accessories, she matched the black clutch and the black high heels.

6) While watching the film I clarified that a lot of high-end brands and high Fashion Houses were developing swiftly. Designers were experimenting with colors, fabrics, patterns, and styles of clothing.

  • Gucci
  • Chanel
  • Dior
  • Louis Vuitton
  • Prada
  • Versace
  • Saint Laurent
  • Balenciaga

The brands mentioned above really took the USA by storm and literally every girl, who cared at least a little about fashion, would like to have a new Gucci bag.

7)8) If somebody asked me what the moral of the film, I’d say that everyone is unique and there is no need to uphold the veneer because you are unlikely to change what is inside you just putting on a brand-new attire. Being yourself and following your dreams is hard and demands a lot of courage but these essential skills will make you happier in the long run. And every time you make a decision, you should listen to your genuine desires. Also, I learned that one shouldn’t run to extremes when it comes to working. Everything requires moderation or, otherwise, you may end up with a mental breakdown and with deteriorated relationships with your nearest and dearest.

Thank you for your attention✨
